SENIOR CARE COMMISSION
======================
(The group photo of 'Senior Care Commission'-From right in the Third Row sitting along with Chairman Dr Fred Siemon)
In view of my Community Services the Santa Clara County,Silicon Valley appointed me as Commissioner on the Senior Care Commission in the August 2002 to June 2005. I tried my best to contribute for the Seniors in the fields of Health care, Transportation, Housing and Welfare.
I give here below some of the suggestions made to chairman for tackling the seniors problems
A copy my communication to Chairman for information
---------------------------------------------------
HI FEDERICK SIEMON,
I GIVE HERE BELOW FEW SUGGESTIONS REGARDING FUTURE
PRESENTATIONS BEFORE THE 'SENIOR CARE COMMISSION'. I
WILL APPRECIATE TO RECEIVE YOUR POSITIVE RESPONSE IN
THE MATTER.
REGARDS,
BHARAT DESAI.
NOTE REGARDING FEW SUGGESTIONS
=============================
I have to suggest that we may invite from the
1) Directorate office, of Social Service Agency,
which is dealing with the Welfare i.e. Cash Aid,
medical etc for the needy immigrant seniors. It will
throw light on the nature of aids, services etc given
thereof and specific effect of forthcoming budget cut
thereon.
2) VTA /OUTREACH authorities for presentation as they
are proposing periodically to increase the
considerable fare for seniors with reduction of the
facilities. It will adversely effect the seniors.This
suggestion is made with a view to interact with them
on senior's issues.
3)Santa Clara valley medical authority in order to
discuss the issues faced by the seniors in the valley
and to get the latest development from them.
4) The public library authority from Santa Clara
county in order to discuss, the special facilities
which are being given to seniors and how they can
increase more more facilities for seniors. Some of the
public libraries are charging considerably and
uniformly for printing services while it is general
policy to give discount to the seniors.
We may also invite some person from county's Housing
authority to give us information what type of
facilities they are extending for seniors and how far
they are utilized? Besides that we can also discuss
that 'How we can educate seniors to avail those
facilities?'
It is very important to protect seniors interest on
legislative,and health care side but it is also
necessary to concentrate on social welfare,
transportation, library, Entertainment, housing etc of
the seniors.

(The officials of Concerened departments thereafter appeared periodically before the commission for presentations and we could could personally interact with them to convey the senior problems. It had brought good results thereon)

The help rendered by 'Senior Care Commission' to the Indian American Seniors regarding their transportation problem.
=======================================
The Indian American Seniors had problem regarding bus stand which was 1/2 miles away from the India Community Center, Sunnyvale. Therefore 'ICC' requested valley transportation service to divert the Rout#26 and to establish bus station near the Center. It was very painful for Seniors to walk down the distance.
I put up the resolution in the 'Senior Care Commission' to support the 'ICC' request and to send the request to 'VTA' through the board of supervisors of the Santa Clara county. The end result of all efforts were that 'VTA' decided to divert said bus rout once in the in morning and onece in evening for enabling Seniors to visit the 'ICC'. It was a matter of satisfaction for all that we could help our Seniors in the matter. Therefore if your attitude is positive we can always help the community.

I volunteered as one of the review panelists on 'Services for Immigrants'Group proposals for the year 2002.
We had privileged to review the 14 such proposals and among them very important and prestigious organizations like Catholic Charities, Asian American For Community Involvement,Legal Aid Society, Siren, etc. It was great satisfaction that indirectly We could assist the immigrant community to get required help. The agency also appreciated in writing our assistance for the community.
